Coffee Trail and Error – Early tryouts – Honduras

The journey around the world continues for the best beans yet, or at least close to the Jamaican ones

The journey was ongoing, but I somehow lost the drive to post updates here, however it is time to fix it. Another country, another type of beans.

Coffee Beans

One of the first ones I got from a hypermarket instead of specialized coffee shop. I wanted to see if even at this level there would be any difference for me. Spoiler alert on this ones there wasn’t that much, however next one would be the first. Unfortunately on the bag there is no indication about the sweetness/sourness or any other things, apart from roast level and just plain information 100% Arabica, well good to know wouldn’t have guessed.

After taking the beans out of the bag I didn’t really notice anything special. The looked perfectly normal like the higher grade and the smell was really strong. The color after griding was a bit lighter than the last medium roast I had.

When it comes to the brewing method I continued trying every method I knew up to this point, apart from the spoon mixing after 1st and 2nd phase. To my surprise the coffee turned out rather clear, did I grind less beans and it was more watery? The smell of a fresh brewed coffee was there for sure so we could only taste it to make sure.

To tell the truth as the spoiler indicated, there wasn’t much difference for me. Guess I still might be lacking ways to identify better/worse combination or the taste notes, which would make this coffee be below the previous ones, but well it was a good cup of coffee for a bit smaller price.

Coffee Rating

  • Flavor – 6 – wasn’t any better than the last one, but I guess it’s still an achievement when it comes in taste
  • Bitterness – 6 – was a bit bitter didn’t mind it.
  • Acidity – 5 – since it was a medium roast I expected it to be as a bit worse, but it was in ok range for me.
  • Sweetness – 1 – nothing advertised and nothing I could feel
  • Initial rating – 5 – it’s an ok coffee to make without thinking too much about the method
  • After time rating – 5- nothing really changed in my opinion, it could’ve lost some bitterness with the passage of time, but didn’t really affected my opinion

Conclusion

If it’s on sale it wouldn’t hurt as a coffee in hurry or to go, where you don’t have time for whole process, since it tastes the same no matter what I did. I personally probably won’t visit it again.
